APRU fellow program 2012 in Singapore

今年6月寫一半的部落文...$%%&*#

去年底碰運氣投了一個給early researcher 參加的fellow program,本來是想去新加坡玩玩的,沒想到參加了之後,對research life, the role of an academia有另一層認識。我會被選上也是莫名其妙,參加的25人,只有兩個人是PhD-in-making,其他都是Dr.XXX。不過由於在澳洲沒大沒小慣了,我都直呼名諱。以下是這次的一點感想。
首先,關於新加坡,it's an amzaing country. The marvelous planning of Singapore is due to it's very long-term vision in developing/planning anything. I have never seen such vision in any kinds of planning in Taiwan. However, Singapore is a very technocentric place. They deeply believe in technology and  rely on robust design. I would say, thing could go pretty well in normal condition but would undergo extreme risk when unexpected disaster falls. And it's amazing how much they invest in developing human resource. This can be seen through their investment in recruting first-class faculty in NUS when all other economies are cutting off their budget in higher education.
